01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A good place to start at Kamesuehiro is its popular “Kyo no yosuga”. This assortment comes in a small hexagonal box and includes sweets such as rakugan, gyuhi and aruheito. One customer remembered the restrained sweetness and the beautiful variety of shapes and colours. The dry sweets are made to be savoured slowly, and the assortment is a handy choice if you would like to take some home and enjoy them over time.
For a more textural treat, consider the monaka. One customer appreciated that the sweet bean paste is added after ordering, keeping the crisp wafer shell fresh. Another chose “Senbe Manjuu Miyoshi”, a monaka with a thin, tortoiseshell-patterned wafer and a generous filling of chunky sweet bean paste. They praised the balance between the mild sweetness of the filling and the delicate shell.
For something that balances sweetness with a touch of salt, there is “Ikkyuji”. This brown-rice rakugan is made with Ikkyuji natto, a fermented soybean preparation. It has a crumbly texture, with a salty centre that reviewers say pairs well with coffee as well as matcha. Other choices include “Karukaru”, a long, thin rice cracker, seasonal jo-namagashi and yokan. The selection ranges from assorted dry sweets to individual treats, so you can choose according to your tastes and how much you want to take home.
This is a sweets shop where you choose your treats in person and take them away. Payment is cash only. It is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00, and closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
